ImprovedMotivation

Fact: In a recent survey, over half of students using Pupil Reward Points agreed that their behaviour and the behaviour of others in their class had improved since the introduction of the reward system. Over 74% said that they were more motivated to complete their class work.

Traditional reward systems have a set reward for reaching a particular milestone. Staff in schools using Pupil Reward Points often ask pupils on the school council what they would like as rewards. Then each pupil in the school can set themselves a target according to the value of the reward they want the most. As the rewards are chosen by pupils themselves, they really work hard for each point.

HigherAchievement

- be healthy
(encourage physical activity)
- stay safe
(improve communication with parents & reward attendance)
- enjoy & achieve
(recognise success)
- make a positive contribution
(give them a say in how they are rewarded)
- achieve economic well-being
(demonstrate that hard work is rewarded)

Well-motivated pupils are more likely to be engaged with their work and ultimately achieve. Pupil Reward Points can also encourage good attendance by automatically awarding points each day a pupil is marked present.

BetterCommunication

Staff, pupils and parents can see when, where and why every achievement has been recorded.

Staff can run reports to see pupils' performance over time, which can be very helpful when writing reports to send home or at parents' evenings.

Pupils can check the website at any time to see where they are doing well by reading colourful charts as well as details of individual achievements.

Likewise, parents can access the website at any time to see information about their children's achievements, which is important because parental involvement has a significant effect on pupil achievement (Every Parent Matters, 2007).
